Theological Thoughts
Philippians 4:8 says our thoughts are to be upon that which is true, honest, just, pure, lovely and of good report. These are all a perfect description of the gospel, which represents the hope of believers, the exaltation of Christ and ultimately the glory of God. However, mixing the gospel with worldly views only shows a lack of belief and esteem for the authority and sufficiency of God’s word. Truth mixed with error is no longer truth at all (1John2:21) but becomes false, dishonest, unjust, impure, ugly and a bad report, which in turn brings false hope, the exaltation of mankind and blasphemy toward God. So, just as it was forbidden to sow with mingled seed under the old covenant, (Lev. 19:19) it is still forbidden for Christians to sow seeds of the gospel mixed with worldly philosophies and opinions of man.
But sadly, many today are deceived into believing one can “chew up the meat and spit out the bones,” when it comes to bad theology. But this philosophy for promoting false doctrine or allowing it to go unchecked is found nowhere in Scripture. In fact, we see just the opposite with warnings such as “teach no other doctrine” (1Tim.1:3), for “a little leaven, leavens the whole lump” (1 Cor. 5:6) “we cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of devils, or be partakers of the Lords table and of the devils table (1Cor.10:21). We are to “avoid those who cause divisions and offenses contrary to doctrine” (Rom.16:17) for there can be no unity between God’s people apart from the truth. Even common sense tells us not to even attempt to eat meat mixed with bones to avoid chipping teeth or choking to death. But more importantly God’s word warns us to abstain from all appearance of evil to avoid being destroyed by it (2Thess.5:22).
So dear friend, commit yourself to “casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” (2 Cor.10:4) and “have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them” (Eph.5:11). For exposing darkness and proclaiming the gospel are actually two aspects of the same task, which may be one reason this discernment series has proven the old adage true, that truth shines brightest against the backdrop of error.
Sis Lee Anne
very nice!
Awesome, well put! I love the truth, it just does something inside when you either hear it or read it. I believe it’s the Spirit’s witness within us. I’ve been called many things, a separatist, bitter, unloving, etc, because I obey the very verses you posted here. I’m good with it, as Peter said in Acts, “It’s better to obey God than man!”
Thanks again for the encouragement Mike. This was to be the last of the discernment series because the editor/pastor of the paper said people were saying they didn’t understand what in the world I was talking about. But the real problems was that they understood all too well, if you know what I mean.
I got to thinking, even if they didn’t understand, why didn’t the pastor try to help them understand, or at least take up for me? Afterall, isn’t that what a pastor is there for???
He even refused to print my article on Kundalini after that in fear that it would offend some of his tithers. You might want to read that article too and let me know what you think.
I’m currently still writing for the paper, but have taken a different route because I realize I need to go straight to the root of it all. I’ll be posting the next article soon, God willing.
you keep on writing girl! I love your articles and understand exactly what they mean. They are a blessing everytime they show up in my inbox. I need to forward them to a few ladies I know and I too struggle with maybe offending them-but hey the truth hurts sometimes.
That’s true Denise, even Jesus, who was the epitome of love, offended people simply because He told the truth.
How could we truly love people if we refused to tell them the truth? You’re doing the right thing by telling these ladies the truth, for true love rejoices in the truth (1 Cor.13:5)!! I’ll be praying for you and them. May God bless your efforts.
God bless you for being unafraid to speak the truth. I have only just found your articles while looking for information on Bethel to share with a friend who has thrown herself wholeheartedly into their “ministries” in Europe. The church is sleeping! The Kundalini spirit is manifesting all over the place, in people who are anxious for spiritual experiences. WAKE UP CHURCH!
Thank you Karen and I pray God blesses you also for trying to help your friend see the light. I pray that God gives her discernment and a love for the truth.
And I’ll second that——-WAKE UP CHURCH!!
Dear sister in Christ, I really am blessed by your warnings in this perilous time we live in. May I ask you if you could shed some light on a ministry called ” nogreaterjoy” by mike and debi pearls. I’m sure they at not on the right path and are misleading many families astray, they are very strong on homeschooling which I have nothing against.
Thank you
Shanta.
Hello Shanta, Bless you for your kind words of encouragement. I’m not familiar with the ministry you mention. The only reason I’m familiar with Sozo is because I used to be involved in it. Since then, I’ve just tried to focus on the true gospel. That way I can discern a counterfeit a mile away. Perhaps that’s why you suspect that one ministry is leading many astray. The more you focus on the true Jesus of the Bible, the more you will be enabled by Him to discern the false.
There is the “quiver full” movement that’s big on homeschooling and the “family integrated” movement, both of which are usually involved in other unbiblical practices such as Sozo. We have a local church here that’s “Family Integrated” and they are also a part of the Bill Johnson “River” movement, which is into Sozo very heavily.
Just remember:
“Be sober, be vigilant, for your adversary walks around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour” (1Pet.5:8).
