“Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee” (Gen. 12:1). And vs. 4 reveals that Abraham did indeed depart. Then God’s Word to Abram in Genesis 15:7 explains WHY Abraham obeyed God’s command, for we read the following:
“The LORD also told him, “I am the LORD, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to possess.”
God clearly revealed that HE was the reason Abraham had true saving faith that produced good works of obedience. So who moved who?
Scripture is so amazingly accurate, down to the most minute detail. Here the LORD specifically states that HE was the One who brought Abraham out of Ur …Wow!!!
So why would Abraham’s faith be accounted to him as righteousness in Gen. 15:6, but not in Gen. 12, as the CoC’s would have us to believe? Why are CoC’s trying to claim Genesis 12 proves a salvation by works instead of faith alone? For Genesis 15 even BRINGS UP Genesis 12, and how God was the mover!!
No wonder Paul brought up Genesis 15 in Romans 4:3, for it also mentions the God-given faith Abraham had in Genesis 12 when God MOVED him to depart from Ur. Hebrews 11:8 confirms that it was by faith that Abraham departed and entered into a foreign country.
“Who hath resisted His will?” “The prophecy came not in old time by the will of man; but holy men of God spake as they were MOVED by the Holy Ghost” (Rom. 9:19, 2 Pet. 1:21). Although the CoC will confess that God’s Word is inspired, it steers clear of the implications of anyone being MOVED by God to do anything, for that would threaten its man-centered illusion of control and autonomous human “freewill.”
However, without the gift of faith Abraham could have done NOTHING of eternal spiritual worth. Abraham’s works were acceptable to God ONLY because of the object of his faith (the coming Messiah). For He is the One who works in His people so that He gets all the glory.
This is why Abraham’s faith was accredited to his spiritual account as righteousness, NOT a self-justifying work-righteousness, as the CoC would deceptively have us to believe. We can only be justified by faith. Nothing more, nothing less.
Despite the CoC’s attempts to create a false dichotomy between “works of the Law” and “works of ‘obedient faith'” (to try to slip in its works-based system), we are saved only by God’s grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone, to the glory of God alone!
The perfect redeeming righteousness of Christ as one’s only hope of salvation is the substance of true saving faith. Scripture makes it clear that the righteousness (obedience) of faith is Jesus’ perfect righteousness for salvation, which faith embraces (Rom. 4:11, 13; 9:30; 10;6). Jesus’ perfect righteousness is the ONLY righteousness that true saving faith embraces as one’s good standing before God.
